BOV Division 2: Mgarr return to winning ways

Mġarr United moved on top the BOV Second Division table as they returned to winning ways, defeating Luqa St. Andrew’s 5-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Patrick Curmi’s side went two goals ahead within the first seven minutes thanks to Jamie Lee Micallef on the 6th and Kenneth Aquilina a minute later. Aquilina increased the lead on the 58th and Lazar Doric added another six minutes later. Leontiev Konda pulled one back for Luqa on the 68th but Ryan Vella made it 5-1 six minutes from time.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s were held in a 1-1 draw by Sta. Venera Lightnings at the Centenary Stadium. Keith Muscat converted a penalty to put Birzebbuga ahead on the 69th minute but Jonathan Micallef equalised twelve minutes from time.

Melita also returned to victory as they defeated Żabbar St. Patrick 3-0 at the Luxol Stadium, courtesy of a Michael Cachia penalty on the 36th and goals by Jean Pierre Attard on the 77th and Luke Mifsud one minute from time.

A goal by Obinna Obiefule handed Siġġiewi a narrow win over bottom-placed Kalkara in another match at the Luxol Stadium.

Mgarr lead the way with 29 points, followed by Birzebbuga and Fgura on 28, Rabat and Marsaxlokk 27, St. George’s 25, Melita 23, Sta. Venera 13, Siggiewi 11, Zabbar 10, Mellieha 9, Luqa 8 and Kalkara 7
