Mosta edge past Sliema to reach FA Trophy quarter-finals

Mosta and Tarxien Rainbows joined Pietà Hotspurs and Hibernians in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy after both registered wins in two matches from the fourth round on Saturday.

At the Hibernians Stadium, Mosta defeated Sliema Wanderers 2-1 in a clash between two BOV Premier League clubs.

Mosta took the lead on the 21st minute. Goran Adamovic risked committing an own goal with a header with the ball ending into a corner and from the resulting corner by Juri Cisotti, Kyle Frendo headed home past goalkeeper Jake Galea.

Sliema equalised four minutes from the end of the first half thanks to Younes Marzouk whose powerful shot from outside the area beat new Mosta goalkeeper Yves Stephane Moto.

However Mosta regained the lead five minutes in the second half when off a Rafael Morisco freekick, Davy Angan N’Guessan beat the Sliema Wanderers goalkeeper.

At the Centenary Stadium, Tarxien Rainbows round no difficulty in beating First Division side Zebbug Rangers 5-0.

Siraj Arab Eddin opened the score on the 19th minute. Michele Paolucci scored twice on the 25th and 59th to increase the lead to 3-0 and Jens Wemmer scored a fourth goal on the 61st. Paolucci completed his hat-trick on the 65th minute.

Nine minutes from time, Tarxien were reduced to ten men after having Matthew Spiteri sent off.
