BOV Women’s League: Comfortable wins for Birkirkara, Hibernians

Leaders Birkirkara and Hibernians registered comfortable wins in the BOV Women’s League after defeating Raiders (Luxol) and Fgura United 7-0 and 7-1 respectively.

Birkirkara broke little sweat to defeat Raiders (Luxol) as they scored seven goals without reply at the Charles Abela Stadium.

A surprising large victory over a team who has been performing well so far, with 10 points in 10 games including a point snatched in their Hibernians tie early in the season. Ann-Marie Said opened the score on minute 15 before Raina Giusti (23′) and Kailey Willis (40′) made it 3-0 before half-time. After the change of ends, Birkirkara continued to dominate proceedings and extended their lead through goals from Ylenia Carabott on the 54th, Stephania Farrugia from the penalty spot on the 62nd and a brace from Kelly Agius Pace on the 80th and the 90th.

Hibernians eased past neighbours Fgura United as they defeated them 7-1 at the Fgura Ground.

After 23 minutes, Hibs had opened a three-goal lead through a brace from Kayleigh Chetcuti (2′ and 13′) and a Nicole Borg effort (23′). On the 37th minute, Aleksandra Marinkovic cut the deficit to two goals but Jade Flask swiftly put the Paolites three goals ahead three minutes before half-time. Borg extended the lead one minute in the second half before Dorianne Theuma added two more goals on the 70th and 75th.

Mġarr United saw off Swieqi United’s challenge to emerge victorious 3-0 at the Mġarr Ground.

Youngster Haley Bugeja was once again the Greens’ main threat as she scored twice on minute 9 and on the 84th minute. In between, Amber Grech had made it 2-0 just past the half-hour to all but seal the win for Mġarr, who are in second spot.

Meanwhile a fourth-minute goal from Katryn Ellul was enough for Kirkop to see off Mosta at the Mġarr Ground on Thursday.
