Vittoriosa Stars awarded 3-0 win after protest

Vittoriosa Stars were awarded a 3-0 win by the MFA Protests Board after a protest against the result of the BOV First Division match against Zebbug Rangers, played on February 17 was upheld. The game had ended in a 1-1 draw.

Vittoriosa had argued that from the 63rd minute onwards, Zebbug Rangers had only seven home-grown players on the field of play which goes against Article 9 (ii)(a) of the Competition Rules.

Zebbug had eight home-grown players in the starting line-up. Brazilian Gregori De Sousa Braga was sent off on the 24th minute but on the 63rd minute, Zebbug replaced Joseph Farrugia by Brazilian Igor Enrique De Rocha Souza and therefore from then onwards, they had only seven home-grown players.

Therefore following this decision by the board, Sirens lead the way on 42 points, followed by Gudja on 35, Santa Lucia 31, Naxxar 27, Lija 25, Pembroke, Zejtun and Swieqi 23, Vittoriosa 22, Mqabba 19, Zebbug 18, Qrendi 17, San Gwann 16 and Marsa 5.
