Difficult test for Hibernians as they take on Hamrun

Leaders Hibernians will be aiming for a fifth consecutive win as they take on Hamrun Spartans at the National Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, in one of three BOV Premier League matches in programme on Friday.

The Paolites lead by two points over Valletta and only a win would guarantee they retain sole leadership.  In their last outing, they registered a most comfortable 5-0 win over neighbours Tarxien Rainbows.

However this will be no easy task considering that Hamrun Spartans are eager to return to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats to Mosta and Sliema Wanderers. The Spartans currently share fifth placed with Birkirkara on 33 points, five behind Gzira United and one behind Sliema.

In the first round, Hibernians defeated Hamrun 2-1.

Meanwhile in the first match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Tarxien Rainbows take on Birkirkara.

Four defeats in their last four outings leave Tarxien in tenth place on 19 points, just two ahead of Senglea Athletic who are currently third from bottom.  Birkirkara, on the other hand, returned to winning ways as they defeated St. Andrews 2-0 to join Hamrun in fifth place.

Birkirkara could not count on the suspended Maurizio Vella.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Tarxien 2-0.

On the other hand, in the second match at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 20:15, Sliema Wanderers take on Mosta.

Both sides are coming from a series of positive results as the Wanderers won their last two matches after three consecutive draws while Mosta won three out of the last four matches, dropping their only points in a draw with Balzan.

Sliema are currently fourth on 34 points while Mosta lie eighth on 22 points.

In the first round, Sliema Wanderers defeated Mosta 2-1.
