BOV Division 1: Brilliant comeback for Qrendi

Qrendi maintained alive hopes of avoiding relegation as they came back from a goal down to beat Vittoriosa Stars 4-2 in a match from the BOV First Division at the Luxol Stadium on Friday.

Josuel Spiteri put Qrendi ahead on the 10th minute but a brace by Noah Olawole Ojuola on the 42nd and the 45th made it 2-1 for Vittoriosa. However Ciro Quaranta converted a penalty on the 66th to restore equilibrium. Five minutes from time, Jonathan Silveira da Silva scored Qrendi’s third and Ciro Quaranta added another on the 90th.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zebbug Rangers defeated bottom-placed Marsa 3-1.

Shawn Darmanin opened the score for Zebbug on the 33rd and although Hideyuki Kawamura converted a penalty to level matters on the 59th, five minutes later, Steve Schembri restored the lead for Zebbug with Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva adding another on the 71st.

Sirens lead the way on 46 points, followed by Gudja on 42, Santa Lucia 35, Naxxar and Zebbug 30, Pembroke and Swieqi 29, Mqabba 28, Lija 27, Vittoriosa and Zejtun 26, Qrendi 20, San Gwann 19 and Marsa 5.
