Gudja United moved to just one point behind leaders Sirens as they defeated Zejtun Corinthians 3-2 in a match from the BOV First Division at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
Llywelyn Cremona put Gudja ahead one minute from the end of the first half and Adolphus Nagbe Marshall doubled the score on the 69th. Zejtun hit back with a Johan Castano penalty on the 74th and six minutes from time, Castano levelled matters. However two minutes later, Dhonatan Santos da Hora made it 3-2 for Gudja.
Swieqi United and Lija Athletic shared the spoils in a most entertaining 4-4 draw. Erjon Beu put Lija ahead on the 22nd but Ibrahim Salis equalised on the 25th. Andrea Azzopardi restored the lead for Lija on the 44th and an Erjon Beu penalty made it 3-1 on the 57th. However goals by Ion-Alin Margarit on the 62nd and Ibrahim Salis on the 76th restored equilibrium. Lija regained the lead thanks to Clifford Gauci ten minutes from time but Shaun Bugeja notched the equaliser deep into stoppage time.
In another match, Naxxar Lions defeated Mqabba 3-1. Joel Ellul opened the score for Naxxar on the 14th minute and although Gianfranco Micallef equalised on the 68th, goals by Edson Farias on the 80th and the 90th handed Naxxar the three points.
Sirens lead the way on 46 points, followed by Gudja on 45, Santa Lucia 35, Naxxar 33, Zebbug and Swieqi 30, Pembroke 29, Mqabba and Lija 28, Vittoriosa and Zejtun 26, Qrendi 20, San Gwann 19 and Marsa 5.
