Birkirkara girls stay six points clear

Birkirkara have made a huge step towards sealing a third straight BOV Women’s League championship after they fired blanks in their direct encounter with Mgarr United at the Mgarr Ground on Monday.

A win and a draw from the remaining three matches are therefore enough for Melania Bajada’s side.

Meanwhile Hibernians broke little sweat to defeat Kirkop United at the Charles Abela Stadium as they won 9-0, with six goals scored in the first half.

Francesca Chircop put Hibs ahead on the 24th minute and three minutes later, Dorianne Theuma converted a penalty. Shona Zammit scored a third goal on the 28th and three minutes later, Theuma scored again. Nicole Borg increased the lead on the 42nd and Francesca Chircop added another one minute from the end of the first half. In the second half, Jade Flask scored the Paolites’ seventh on the 77th. Ruth Steer-Chetham added another on the 83rd and two minutes later, Kirkop committed an own goal.

In Section B, Fgura United chalked up their first win as they defeated Mosta 2-1 at the Fgura Ground.

Sarah Grech put Fgura ahead on the 39th and Ilena Navarro doubled the score on the 82nd with Rossella D’Antuono reducing the gap four minutes from time.

On the other hand, the game between Raiders (Luxol) and Swieqi United was postponed due to a problem in the lightning system at the Mġarr Ground. This will now be played on Wednesday April 10 at the Mġarr Ground at 20.15.
