Balzan join Birkirkara in sixth place

Balzan registered a second win on the trot as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. A win which enables them to join Birkirkara in sixth place on the 39-point mark, two points behind Hamrun Spartans and one behind Sliema.

Tarxien, on the other hand, remain joint-ninth on 23 points as they suffer the sixth defeat in eight matches.

Balzan could have taken the lead on 26 minutes but Steve Pisani’s freekick was parried by Buhagiar, aided by the upright.

Twenty minutes, Balzan managed to break the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty after Andrija Majdevac was brought down inside the area by Matthew Spiteri and the Serbian striker converted from the penalty spot.

Three minutes from time, Balzan sealed the issue with a second goal thanks to Aleksandar Kosoric who placed the ball at the back of the net following an Alfred Effiong corner.
