Hamrun seek win to maintain pressure for third place

Hamrun Spartans will be all out to claim the three points on Saturday as they take on Senglea Athletic at the Hibernians Stadium, kick-off at 16:00.

Lying fifth on 40 points, one point ahead of Balzan and Birkirkara, one behind Sliema and five behind third-placed Gzira, the Spartans would move fourth in case of a win. They claimed back-to-back wins in the last two matches after defeating Birkirkara 1-0 and Qormi 2-1.

However, Senglea also seek precious points in their bid to avoid the play-off spot. They are currently fourth from bottom on 21 points, three ahead of St. Andrews. In their last two matches, they defeated St. Andrews 5-0 but were then held in a 2-2 draw by Tarxien.

In the first round, Hamrun defeated Senglea 1-0.

Meanwhile in the second match, kick-off at 18:00, Mosta cross swords with Floriana.

After winning three out of the last four matches, including last week’s impressive 2-0 win over leaders Valletta, Floriana would secure their status with a win over Mosta.

The Blues, however, still lie in the danger zone as they are just five points away from St. Andrews who are currently third from bottom. They suffered defeats to Sliema and Valletta but managed to hold Hibernians in a 1-1 draw last week.

In the first round, Floriana defeated Mosta.
