Luxol Futsal crowned champions

Luxol were declared champions after making it three wins in a row in the Malta FA Futal League Elite Play-Offs final at the Corradino Pavilion on Friday.

Luxol captain Mark Zammit gave his side a two goal lead within the first eight minutes. Nicola Del Re added two more goals, scoring the second one 47 seconds before half time, after Valletta’s Gia Nikvashvilli reduced the gap after converting a penalty.

Early in the second half, Luxol’s Celino Alves was denied by the posts but Leanderson Sant’Anna Coriolano soon scored Luxol’s fifth.

From now on Valletta put everything forward and managed to reduce the gap to 5-4, thanks to a brace by Shawn Vella and another goal by Nikvashvili.

With the result this close, both teams had a player sent off for receiving the second yellow card – Nikvashvili for Valletta and Maicon Silva for Luxol.

However, Luxol sealed the issue with a third goal by Del Re and goals by Leanderson and Emil Andrei Raducu. Thirty seconds from the end, Shawn Vella has also been sent off for receiving the second yellow card.

After the end of the match, Luxol’s celebration reached the climax as MFA Deputy General Secretary Louis Micallef presented the cup to captain Mark Zammit.

Meanwhile earlier this week, the University of Malta Futsal Team secured their place in the Elite for the coming season after beating Swieqi United Under-21 3-0.
