Tricky Senglea test for Hibernians

Hibernians will be all out to return to winning ways as they take on Senglea Athletic at the National Stadium on Monday, kick-off at 20:00.

The Paolites lie five points behind leaders Valletta and a win is a must for them to maintain alive hopes of clinching the title. In fact, any other result would hand the title to Valletta.

As things stand, Senglea still risk ending third from bottom as they lie five points ahead of St. Andrews and therefore need two points from the last two games – the other being the clash with Birkirkara, to secure their status. Senglea are unbeaten in four matches after a win over St. Andrews and draws with Tarxien, Hamrun and Sliema. However should St. Andrews lose to Floriana, Senglea would be sure of playing in the Premier League next season.

For Hibernians, Marcelo Dias is suspended.

In the first round, Hibernians defeated Senglea 2-0.

Meanwhile in the first match at the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, St. Andrews take on Floriana.

Lying third from bottom on 18 points, just two ahead of Qormi and five behind Senglea, the Saints are risking a lot. Having lost their last seven matches, they even risk Qormi leapfrogging them which would mean being relegated without having to face the Play-Off.

Floriana, on the other hand, lie in a most comfortable mid-table position and hope to end the season on a positive note.

Adrian Borg of St. Andrews and Floriana’s Enzo Ruiz are both suspended.

In the first round, St. Andrews defeated Floriana 3-0.

At the Hibernians Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, Qormi take on Birkirkara.

A shock 3-1 win over Hibernians boosted Qormi’s morale and lifted hopes of avoiding the drop. Claiming maximum points from this clash could possibly put them third from bottom should St. Andrews lose to Floriana.

However Birkirkara, now under the guidance of new coach John Buttigieg, will be aiming at returning to winning ways after suffering defeats to Hibernians and Mosta.

Qormi’s Tensior Gusman and Birkirkara’s Kurt Zammit are ruled through suspension.

In the first round, Birkirkara defeated Qormi 2-1.
