Hibs beat Senglea to move two points behind Valletta

Match-Day 26 will determine the BOV Premier League championship and the relegation issue after Hibernians defeated Senglea Athletic 2-0 at the National Stadium on Monday.

Hibernians move two points behind leaders Valletta with the Paolites facing Balzan in their final match and the Citizens meeting rivals Hamrun Spartans.

Senglea, on the other hand, are yet to secure their status as they lie fourth from bottom on 23 points, two ahead of St. Andrews and four ahead of Qormi. The team finishing second from bottom would join Pietà Hotspurs in Division while the team ending third from bottom would take on the team finishing third in the BOV First Division in the Play-Off.

Taylon Nicolas Correa Marcolino put Hibernians ahead on the half-hour, hitting home from inside the area after exchanging the ball with Tiago Adan Fonseca.

Just before the end of the first half, Hibernians doubled the score thanks to Jake Grech who concluded a good move by entering the area and beating Matthew Farrugia with a shot from the right.
