Senglea secure Premier League status

Senglea Athletic will be playing once again in the BOV Premier League next season after defeating Birkirkara 3-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday. A win which ensures they finish in joint-tenth place together with Tarxien Rainbows on the 26-point mark, two ahead of St. Andrews.

For Birkirkara, this fourth successive defeat leaves them in seventh place.

Birkirkara took the lead on the 19th minute when Jorge Pereira da Silva tapped the ball home off a cross by Michael Mifsud from the right.

Senglea equalised three minutes in the second half when they were awarded a penalty and from the penalty spot, Diego Venancio made no mistake. 

On the 86th minute, Senglea forged ahead thanks to a Matias Nicolas Garcia header which beat goalkeeper Andrew Hogg.

Leighton Grech extended the lead for Senglea five minutes from time when they were awarded another penalty, making no mistake from the penalty spot.

However on the 88th minute, Birkirkara reduced the gap thanks to a goal by Michael Mifsud.
