Miguel Angel Alba, Roderick Briffa return with Birkirkara

Birkirkara FC opened their transfer campaign with a bang as after announcing the signing of Italian central defender Enrico Pepe, they welcomed back Miguel Angel Alba and Roderick Briffa. Alba signs a two-year contract while Briffa signed a one-year deal.

Thirty-year old Miguel Angel Alba had a first spell with Birkirkara in the latter part of season 2016/17 but after not being retained by the Stripes, he moved back to Argentina where he played for Gimnasia y Tiro (Salta). However, he returned to Malta in January 2018 to join Valletta where he spent the last eighteen months, winning two championships. Earlier in his career, Alba played for CA Union, CA Chacarita Juniors, CA Douglas Haig, Alianza Petrolera in Colombia, CD Nublense in Chile, Deportivo Santamarina, CD Guarani, Paphos FC in Cyprus, PAE Veria in Greece and Ermis Aradippou in Cyprus.

A product of Birkirkara, thirty-seven year old Roderick Briffa made his Premier League debut with the Stripes in season 2001/02. He had spells on loan with Lija Athletic and Pieta Hotspurs and in summer 2007, he was transferred to Sliema Wanderers. With the Blues, he spent two years, before joining Valletta in summer 2009. Briffa left the Citizens in 2017 to join Gzira United.

Leading Birkirkara as coach will be John Buttigieg, assisted by Jonathan Holland.
