MFA Technical Director Robert Gatt will be stepping down at the end of next month. This was revealed during a meeting of the Council of the Malta Football Association which was held on Thursday.

Gatt, who had earlier served as coach of the Malta Under-21, Under-18 and Under-16 national teams and as caretaker national coach, had been appointed as MFA Technical Director and Head of the MFA Technical Centre in January 2011.

Meanwhile clubs having players in the national team will be receiving €3,400 per player per match for their participation in the UEFA Nations League. Payments are expected to be made in the beginning of next year.

The MFA has been granted the sum of €50,000 from UEFA for refugees fund that will benefit FSR department while another grant was awarded by the UEFA Foundation for Children for a project submitted by the MFA for a football facility to be developed at the St Joseph Institute in Santa Venera.

Other funds claimed by the Association included a National Disaster Grant following the inclement weather in February which wreaked havoc in a number of facilities owned by clubs. The application by the MFA was partially accepted and UEFA will donate 50% of the amount requested and the MFA could bank on the amount of €193,000 which will help clubs repair the damages sustained.

Franz Tabone was announced as the second winner of this year’s President Award, joining Youth FA President Fr Hilary Tagliaferro who was presented with the same award during the MFA Awards night on May 24.

Darmanin Demajo hailed the contribution made by Tabone over the past eight years, saying that he raised the profile of the Integrity Officer’s role and above all creating awareness about integrity issues in the game.
