Heavy defeat for Birkirkara girls in final match

After two 0-1 defeats, Birkirkara lost heavily to Wexford Youths in their last match from Group 10 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the ARVI Football Arena in Marijampole, Lithuania on Tuesday.

Two goals in four minutes by Murphy on the 32nd and Davidson on the 35th put the Irish two goals ahead but one minute from the end of the first half, Raina Giusti pulled one back for Birkirkara. However Wexford regained a comfortable lead early in the second half thanks to Kennedy on the 53rd and Murphy on the 61st. Ylenia Carabott reduced the gap on the 63rd but Murphy made it 5-2 five minutes later. Wexford added another two goals in the dying minutes thanks to Jarrett on the 85th and Rossiter on the 91st for a final 7-2 score.

Wexford therefore finished second, one points behind group winners KS Vllaznia. Gintra Universitetas placed third ahead of Birkirkara. Vllaznia were held in a 1-1 draw by hosts Gintra in another match on Thursday.
