Sirens register first win in seven-goal thriller

Newly-promoted Sirens registered their first ever win in the BOV Premier League as they managed to beat Mosta 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

For Mosta, this was the first defeat following a fine win over Tarxien in their first outing. After conceding an early goal, they managed to equalise but Sirens went 4-1 ahead and a good comeback by Mosta was not enough to rescue a point.

Sirens coach Steve D’Amato named an unchanged line-up following the draw with Senglea while Mosta had one change as Sergio Leonardo Villareal was preferred to Nikita Kotlov.

Ige Abdullahi Adeshina put the St. Paul’s Bay side ahead on the 7th minute, heading the ball home off a cross by Flavio Carioca.

However Mosta equalised on the 16th when following an assist by Matias Muchardi, Momodou Salieu Jallow placed the ball at the back of the net in style.

Sirens regained the lead on the 28th thanks to Emmanuel Okoye who placed the ball at the back of the net following a short clearance following a cross from the right by Romeu Romao.

Thirteen minutes in the second half, Flavio Cheveresan made it 3-1, heading the ball home off a cross by Okoye from the left.

Wellington de Oliveira added another on the 68th minute when he concluded a good run on the left by hitting low past the Mosta goalkeeper.

Weverton was unlucky to hit the upright for Mosta but Matias Muchardi reduced the gap on the 81st minute with a fine cross shot from the left which gave David Cassar no chance.

Two minutes later, Weverton Gomes scored Mosta’s third, hitting home from close range.
