BOV Gozo Football Leagues get underway

The BOV Gozo Football League First Division kicked-off during the weekend with match-day 1. Ghajnsielem and Xewkija Tigers registered emphatic wins while Victoria Hotspurs and Nadur Youngsters also claimed the three points.

On Friday, Ghajnsielem defeated Xaghra United 5-1. Igor Nedeljkovic put Ghajnsielem ahead on the 13th minute and six minutes in the second half, Nemanja Stojanovic doubled the score. On the hour, Igor Nedeljkovic made it 3-0 and six minutes later, Jhon Arboleda Valencia added another. Joseph George Vella reduced the gap thanks to a penalty on the 76th but Igor Nedeljkovic made it 5-1 seven minutes from time.

Champions Victoria Hotspurs beat Kercem Ajax 2-1 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday. A brace by Elton da Silva on the 36th and 73rd put the Hotspurs two goals ahead with Ali Oularbi scoring a consolation goal three minutes in added time thanks to a penalty.

In another match on Sunday, a goal after just five minutes by Predrag Djordjevic handed Nadur Youngsters a narrow win over SK Victoria Wanderers.

On Monday, Xewkija Tigers defeated Gharb Rangers 5-0. Gharb had a player sen off and Xewkija were awarded a penalty but Jackson Lima’s effort was saved by the Gharb goalkeeper on the 11th. However the Tigers still managed to take the lead on the 18th through Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior. Johnny Camilleri doubled the score one minute in the second half and Jackson De Lima made it 3-0 on the 58th. Xewkija continued to extend the lead thanks to Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior on the 66th and Johnny Camilleri on the 84th.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Sannat Lions defeated St. Lawrence Spurs 2-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium. Antoine Camilleri put Sannat ahead on the 11th minute and although Matthias Michael Uzor levelled matters on the 58th, Camilleri made it 2-1 six minutes from time.

In another match, Oratory Youths and Qala Saints shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Jeremy Portelli put Qala ahead on the 36th but Chris Borg equalised on the 63rd.
