Xewkija hit eight past Munxar in BOV GFA Cup

The BOV GFA Cup Preliminary Round took centre stage in Gozo during the weekend with six matches scheduled at the Kercem Ajax Stadium.

Xewkija Tigers registered the largest win as they defeated Munxar Falcons 8-3. By the end of the first half, the score was still 1-1 as Cleiton Jose Hinrichs put Munxar ahead on the 42nd and Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior equalised three minutes later. However the second half was a completely different story as nine goals were scored. Claudio Antunes made it 2-1 one minute in the second half and Ayesller Carvalho levelled matters on the 51st. Goals by Claudio Antunes on the 56th and Claudio Frances on the 62nd put the Tigers 4-2 ahead but Luke Meilaq reduced the gap for Munxar on the 63rd. However Xewkija increased the lead thanks to Claudio Antunes on the 66th, a Michael Camilleri penalty on the 74th, Jackson de Lima on the 80th and a Josmar Vella penalty six minutes from time.

Ghajnsielem also registered a comfortable win as they beat Qala Saints 4-0 courtesy of Nemanja Stojanovic on the 5th, Jhon Arboleda Valencia on the 38th, Kurt Grima on the 51st and Alberto Xuereb on the 75th.

Nadur Youngsters needed extra-time to beat Gharb Rangers 4-1. Olimpio Gabriel Fernandes put Gharb ahead on the 67th but four minutes later, Johan Alberto Castano equalised. The game went into extra-time with Gharb having a player sent off. Nadur took full advantage, taking the lead on teh 104th through Brandon Said with Castano adding another on the 110th and an own goal on the 121st minute handing the Youngsters a 4-1 win.

Xaghra United came from behind to beat Oratory Youths 3-1. Eric Gauci put Oratory ahead on the 42nd but an Ander Gonzalo Lago hat-trick – on the 47th, 68th and 86th – put Xaghra in the next round.

Kercem Ajax defeated Zebbug Rovers 4-2. A Tiago Barbosa penalty on the 26th minute gave Zebbug the lead but Anthony Zammit equalised on the 38th and Andrea Debincat made it 2-1 on the 45th. Tiago Barbosa restored equilibrium on the 54th but goals by Andrea Debrincat on the 70th and Darko Krstic on the 92nd gave Kercem a 4-2 lead.

Sannat Lions, on the other hand, defeated St. Lawrence Spurs 2-1. An own goal put Sannat ahead on the 61st, Antoine Camilleri doubled the score on the 77th with Charlon Farrugia pulling one back ten minutes from time.
