National futsal team to play friendly matches against Bulgaria

The national futsal team will be playing two friendly matches against Bulgaria in preparation for the UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 Qualifying Group C Tournament.

Malta, now under the guidance of newly-appointed coach Zeljko Anicic, will face Greece, Poland and Sweden in the Futsal EURO 2020 mini-tournament, to be played between January 29 and February 1, 2020 at the National Sports School, Pembroke.

The forthcoming Bulgaria friendlies will enable Anicic to assess his players’ level of fitness and form heading into the final days of preparations for the tournament. The back-to-back friendlies will take place on Sunday 19 and Monday 20 at the National Sports School, both kicking off at 19.00.

At present, Anicic is working with a squad of 18 players who have been training regularly for the past two weeks. Most of the players in the provisional squad featured in the friendly matches against Armenia in October with the Maltese team bouncing back from a disappointing defeat in the first friendly to draw 3-3 in the second match.

Luxol goalkeeper Stefan Vella is back in the squad with Anicic also handing a recall to University of Malta duo Melvin Borg and Dylan Musu.
