Gudja comeback stuns Floriana

Gudja United continued where they had left last week with the narrow win over Sliema Wanderers as they registered a second win on the trot defeating joint-leaders Floriana 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

For the Greens, this was yet another set-back after they suffered their third defeat in the five league matches played in 2020. This defeat would allow eternal rivals Valletta to take sole leadership should they avoid a defeat to Birkirkara on Sunday.

On the other hand, for Gudja, this second consecutive win puts them back in tenth place as they leapfrog Santa Lucia.

Matias Nicolas Garcia put Floriana ahead on the 15th minute as he headed the ball home off a cross by Marcelo Dias from the right.

However, Gudja equalised on the 67th when off a cross by Justin Grioli, Enzo Ruiz headed the ball home past Akpan for an own goal.

Four minutes later, Miguel Antonio Jimenez notched the winner when he advanced upfield before beating the Floriana custodian with a fine rising shot.
