Sirens return to winning ways

Sirens bounced back from the shock defeat to Hamrun Spartans last Monday as they defeated Santa Lucia 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

The St. Paul’s Bay side therefore close in on joint-leaders Floriana and Valletta but the latter two have a game in hand. For Santa Lucia, this was the first defeat after a draw with Valletta and three wins over Gzira, Gudja and Tarxien.

Flavio Cheversan put Sirens ahead on the 5th minute, slotting the ball past goalkeeper TImothy Aquilina following a cross by Thiago Espindola de Paula.

Sirens doubled the score on the 23rd minute when off a cross by Wellington de Oliveira, Emmanuel Okoye flicked the ball past the Santa Lucia goalkeeper.
