Malta set to play friendly match against Portugal

The Malta national team, led by Devis Mangia, is set to play a friendly match against Portugal in Lisbon on the eve of EURO 2020.

The friendly match is expected to be played after Portugal meet Spain in another friendly match at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on June 5. Portugal plays the first match in Group F of the EURO 2020 on June 16.

The date will be confirmed by the Portuguese FA next week.

The match against Portugal is the last in a series of friendly matches for Malta between March and June ahead of the UEFA Nations League commitments, kicking-off in September – the draws for which will be held on March 3.

The first match will be a friendly match at Ta’ Qali against Gibraltar on March 26, kick-off at 16:00. Four days later, Malta faces Azerbaijan in another friendly match at Ta’ Qali, kick-off at 18:00.

In May, the national team will travel to Austria for the traditional end-of-the-season training camp where Malta will play two friendly matches. The first opponent is yet to be confirmed while the second friendly match will be played against Slovenia.

Meanwhile during their stay, Azerbaijan and Gibraltar will also play friendly matches against Liechtenstein on the 26th March and 29th March respectively at the National Stadium.
