Balzan return to winning ways

Balzan returned to winning ways as they defeated Gudja United 2-0 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.

A win which enables them to join Hamrun and Mosta on 25 points, four points ahead of Gudja United and Sliema Wanderers.

Balzan took the lead six minutes from the end of the first half to Ricardo Calixto Correa Duarte who received a cross by Alfred Effiong and hit hard past goalkeeper Glenn Zammit.

Gudja were reduced to ten men six minutes from time after Imanol Gonzalez received a second yellow card for stopping a promising attack.

Three minutes later, Balzan sealed the issue with a second goal as Steve Pisani managed to beat Zammit with a rising shot following an assist by substitute Stefan Dimic.
