MFA Council set to remove parameter fees on Monday

The Council of the Malta Football Association is set to meet on Monday to approve the long-awaited player status reform.

Discussions on this issue have been going on for years but the Council should now approve the final set of regulations on the status and transfer of players.

So far, a club who wanted to sign a player whose contract with his previous club expired still had to pay a parameter fee.

However many, and in particular, the Malta Football Players Association, have been lobbying against these regulations.

Now thanks to these new regulations, parameters will be removed.

Meanwhile, also on the agenda is the approval of the competitions to be held during season 2020/21.

Apart from the increase of number of teams in the Premier League, the First Division is set to be renamed Challenge League and the Second and Third Division will merge into the National Amateur League divided into three sections.
