Andre Paus confirmed as Birkirkara coach

Birkirkara FC confirmed Andre Paus as their coach with the Dutchman signing a one-year deal.

Paus has replaced John Buttigieg in September after the Stripes lost the opening two matches. However, after a rather shaky start with three draws in his first three matches and two defeats in the next four, the Stripes recovered well and by match-day 20, when football was suspended, they were fifth on 33 points. In fact, they won six out of the last eight matches.

Andre Paus had started his coaching career in the Netherlands with WKE and later coached Spakenburg and Lienden. He formed part of the Vitesse coaching staff before moving to Malta in January 2014 to join Valletta, leading the Citizens to the double.

The following summer, Paus moved to Cyprus to join Anorthosis where he spent two years. He had a spell with FC Twente as a scout. Paus later served as coach of AE Larisa in Greece for a five-month spell, Enosis Neon Paralimniou in Cyprus between November 2017 and November 2018 and as caretaker coach of KW Quick ’20 in the Netherlands the final part of season 2018/19.

So far, two of the foreigners on the books of the club – Oscar Matias Carniello and Claudio Bonanni have renewed their contracts.
