Haley Bugeja set to join Sassuolo

Malta international striker Haley Bugeja is set to join Italian Serie A side US Sassuolo Calcio Femminile. Bugeja will be signing a three-year deal, pending a medical test.

The sixteen year old has been playing regularly for the Mgarr United senior side for the past two years. She was voted MFA Player of the Year and Under-19 Player of the Year in 2018/19, apart from ending as top scorer in both the Women’s League and the Women’s Under-19 League with 19 goals and 41 goals respectively.

This season, she helped Mgarr United finish second in the Women’s League and champions in the Women’s Under-19 League. She finished as top scorer in the Women’s Under-19 League with 50 goals, scoring also 23 goals in the Women’s League.

Last season, a number of Malta international players were on the books of Italian clubs, namely Emma Lipman with Florentia San Gimignano, Shona Zammit with Pink Bari, Nicole Sciberras with Juventus, Ylenia Carabott with Chievo Fortitudo and Martina Borg with Sassari Torres.

As for this coming season, Emma Lipman and Rachel Cuschieri will be joining Lazio.
