Yuri Messias brace hands Gudja first win

Gudja United registered their first win as a brace by Gabriel Mensah handed them a 2-0 win over Lija Athletic at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Jesmond Zammit’s side therefore remain unbeaten after two matches. On the other hand, for Lija, this was the first defeat after an impressive 4-0 win over Senglea Athletic in their first outing.

Yuri Messias put Gudja ahead on the 16th minute when he received a through pass by Aidan Friggieri and after advancing into the area, he hit low past Luke Bonnici.

Five minutes in the second half, Yuri Messias was brought down inside the area by the Lija goalkeeper and the Brazilian converted from the penalty spot to seal the issue.
