Second consecutive win for Gudja United

Yuri de Jesus Messias was once again the hero for Gudja United as he scored the all-important goal in a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians at the National Stadium on Thursday.

This was the second consecutive win for Gudja which puts them on level points with Sliema, two points behind leaders Hamrun Spartans.

On the other hand, for Zejtun, this was the first defeat after two draws in the opening two matches.

Gudja could have taken the lead on the 31st minute through Yuri Messias whose direct freekick hit the woodwork.

However, eight minutes from time, Yuri de Jesus Messias put Gudja ahead, slotting the ball past goalkeeper Christian Cassar following a cross from the right.

In the dying minutes, Zejtun went close to equalising but a Ricardo Silva Faria effort hit the upright.
