Sliema Wanderers suffer first defeat

Gudja United came back from a goal down to beat Sliema Wanderers 2-1 at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Thanks to this win, Gudja join Sliema, Gzira and Hibernians on the 10-point mark, two behind leaders Hamrun.

The Wanderers managed to take the lead on 37 minutes when off a cross by Ruslan Kisil from the left, the Gudja defence failed to clear the ball into safety, Danny Holla hit the upright and off the rebound, Juri Cisotti served Jean Paul Farrugia who hit home from close range.

Four minutes in added time, before half-time, Gudja levelled matters thanks to a Yuri de Jesus Messias penalty after Oscar Linton brought Augusto Caseres down inside the area.

Five minutes in the second half, Gudja went 2-1 ahead when Yuri de Jesus Messias stole the ball off a defender, rounded a couple of players before his conclusion was blocked but off the rebound, Aiden Friggieri placed the ball at the back of the net.
