BOV Amateur League: Melita register third win on the trot

Melita registered a third win as six matches from the National Amateur League were in programme on Saturday.

In Group A, Mellieha registered a 4-1 win over ten-man Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Shawn Vella put Birzebbuga ahead on the 12th minute but the Saints had a player sent off a few minutes later. Michael Micallef equalised on the 40th and three minutes later, Cleiton Jose Hinrichs made it 2-1. Micallef scored twice in the second half on the 59th and 70th to seal the issue.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zurrieq defeated Ta’ Xbiex 2-0 courtesy of Adrian Caruana on the 57th minute and Erik Pietribiasi on the 81st.

In Group B, Rabat Ajax defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium.

Aidan Azzopardi put the Magpies ahead on the 9th minute and Wayne Borg converted a penalty on the 26th. Ryan Gafa reduced the gap for Luqa on the 70th but Aidan Azzopardi made it 3-1 seven minutes later.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Mtarfa defeated Mdina Knights 2-1. Ryan Sciberras gave Mtarfa the lead on the 32nd minute and although Andreas Anastasi equalised on the 62nd, Alejandro Brincat notched the winner for Mtarfa on the 77th minute.

In Group C at the Sirens Stadium, Melita maintained their perfect record thanks to a 4-1 win over Xghajra Tornados.

Nigel Rizzo put the Amateurs ahead on the 24th, Nicholas Jaccarini doubled the score on the 40th and four minutes in the second half, Matteo Desira Buttigieg made it 3-0. Rizzo scored a fourth goal on the 75th and an own goal handed Xghajra a consolation goal a minute later.

In another match, Dingli Swallows and Sta. Venera Lightnings shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
