Maxuell, Plut hit a brace each as Sirens, Tarxien share spoils in draw

Maxuell Maia da Silva and Vito Plut scored two goals each as Sirens and Tarxien Rainbows shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Sirens were playing their first match in over a month after most of the players in their squad ended up in quarantine. This was in fact only their fourth match in this Premier League campaign and continue to chase their first win after a draw and two defeats in the first three matches. Tarxien, on the other hand, now lie on the five-point mark after a win and this second draw.

Tarxien had a perfect start, taking the lead after just three minutes when Vito Plut exchanged the ball with Vagner Conceicao who returned the served hum with a perfect assist from the left for the Slovenian striker to hit home from close range.

Sirens equalised eight minutes from the end of the first half when Maxuell Maia da Silva hit home past goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes when served on the right.

Just before the end of the first half, Sirens went 2-1 ahead when off a Terence Agius corner from the left, Maxuell Maia da Silva rose high to anticipate the Tarxien goalkeeper.

Two minutes in the second half, Tarxien were unlucky to hit the crossbar with a Jurgen Debono effort from outside the area.

However, nine minutes from time, they notched the equaliser thanks to Vito Plut who placed the ball at the back of the net from close range when served by Matthew Spiteri.
