Sirens left to late to beat Lija Athletic 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday thanks to two goals in the dying minutes.

For Sirens, this was the first win after two defeats and two draws from the first four matches while Lija suffered the fifth defeat in seven matches.

Before the game, Sirens president Mark Borg Hedley presented a memento to Michael Mifsud after making his 143rd and final appearance for the national team and scoring his 42nd goal on Wednesday against Liechtenstein.

Sirens managed to break the deadlock six minutes from time when a Michael Mifsud effort was partially saved by Bonnici and of the rebound Wellington placed the ball at the back of the net.

Two minutes later, Sirens sealed the issue with a second goal thanks to Michael Mifsud who received an assist by Wellington and hit home from close range.

In added time, Michael Mifsud was sent off for Sirens after receiving a straight red card by referee Andrea Sciriha for using foul language.
