Gzira edge past Sliema in entertaining clash

Gzira United moved temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table thanks to a highly entertaining 3-2 win over Sliema Wanderers at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.

The Maroons, therefore, extended their positive run to seven matches while Sliema suffer their second defeat in four matches.

Gżira took the lead on the 7th minute when off an assist by Raphael Kooh Sohna, Martin Davis beat Jake Galea with a good shot from the left. 

Martin Davis could have made it 2-0 on the 20th minute but was unlucky to hit the upright.

Seven minutes in the second half, Raphael Kooh Sohna doubled the score for the Maroons, hitting home from close range following an inviting cross by Ricardo Correa from the left. 

On the hour, Sliema pulled one back when off a cross by Dejan Vukovic, Riki Kakinuma hit home from close range.

Sliema equalised ten minutes from time when Juri Cisotti entered the area from the right and crossed for substitute Jean Paul Farrugia to head home past Haber. 

However, four minutes later, Gzira were awarded a penalty after Myles Beerman handled the ball inside the area and Steve Borg made no mistake to make it 3-2.
