Sliema, Gzira seek sole leadership

Sliema Wanderers and Gzira United will be aiming for the three points on Saturday in their bid to take sole leadership as they take on Zejtun Corinthians and Sirens respectively in the two of the four matches in programme at the National Stadium and Hibernians Stadium.

Mosta face Tarxien Rainbows and Santa Lucia meet Hibernians in the other two matches.

In the first match at the Hibernians Stadium, Santa Lucia take on Hibernians. Hibs currently share fourth place with Gudja on 17 points while Santa Lucia lie in ninth place on twelve. After winning five of the previous seven matches, the Paolites lost 1-2 to Sirens in their last outing. Santa Lucia, on the other hand, are unbeaten in two matches after defeating Lija 3-2 and holding Santa Lucia in a 2-2 draw.

In the second match, Sirens face Gzira United. The Maroons, who are currently second – one point behind Sliema and Hamrun, are eager to return to winning ways after dropping two points in a draw with Santa Lucia. However, they are unbeaten in eight matches. Sirens, on the other hand, earned four precious points from the last two matches following a draw with Valletta and a 2-1 win over Hibernians. The St. Paul’s Bay side shares fourth place from bottom on nine points.

Gzira could not count on the suspended Gabriel Bohrer Mentz, Amadou Samb and Martin Davis.

In the first match at the National Stadium, Mosta take on Tarxien Rainbows. Three wins over Santa Lucia, Senglea and Floriana enabled the Blues to move sixth on fourteen points. Tarxien, on the other hand, lie third from bottom as they lost four out of the last seven matches. They are coming from a 0-3 defeat to Birkirkara.

Clayton Failla serves a one-match ban for Mosta.

In the second match, Zejtun Corinthians face Sliema Wanderers. The Wanderers share the top spot with Hamrun and won five out of the last seven matches, defeating Lija 4-1 in their last outing. On the other hand, three defeats from the last four matches left the Corinthians sharing fourth place from bottom with Sirens. They lost 0-4 to Zejtun in their last outing.

Diego Albanese and Fernando Jose Gomes Junior are ruled out through suspension for Zejtun.
