Maxuell Samurai hands Sirens narrow win over Gzira

Following a draw with Valletta and a win over Hibernians, Sirens collected another precious points as they defeated Gzira United 1-0 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.

Sirens join Santa Lucia on the 12 point mark, in ninth place. Gzira, on the other hand, are now fourth, four points behind leaders Sliema.

The St. Paul’s Bay side scored the all-important goal five minutes from the end of the first half when off a Thiago Espindola throw in from the left, there was a short clearance by Steve Borg and Maxuell Maia da Silva hit low past goalkeeper Justin Haber.

The Maroons could have equalised on the hour when they were awarded a penalty after Jefferson was brought down inside the area by Jacob Walker but Ricardo Correa’s effort was neutralised by Miguel Montfort.

Three minutes later, Wilfried Domoraud hit the upright for Sirens.
