Futsal: Luxol start on a high

Luxol started their title defence on a high as they saw off newcomers Mellieħa 7-1 as the FMA Futsal league got underway. 

The team led by Gabriel Dobre produced an exceptional performance and had Brazilian playmaker Maicon hitting the target three times. Gia Nikhashvili, Giancarlo Sammut and Nathan Cope were also on the scoresheet. 

Valletta defeated Qormi 8-2 with Mohammed Elamari, Andre Ciancio and Melvin Borg scoring two goals each.  

Ta’ Xbiex had a dream start after a resounding 12-2 victory over Żurrieq with Stefi Cale scoring four of the goals. 

University of Malta got their first three points of the season after winning a hard-fought contest over Naxxar Lions. Nippy striker Denis di Maio scored two goals with Paul Scerri adding another one. 

Swieqi United cruised past Marsaskala 12-1 to start their league campaign in style. Amongst the scorers were Karl Sciortino and Robert Stoyanov who netted a hat-trick each. 

Meanwhile Mellieħa registered their first win as they saw off St George’s 10-3. This was the second defeat for St. George’s after losing to Ibraġġ 8-2. 

During this first round of matches Ta’ Xbiex, Naxxar Lions, Mellieħa, Ibraġġ and St George’s made their official debut in the local futsal league which is being played at the National Sports School and De La Salle College.
