BOV Women’s League: Mgarr take sole leadership

Mgarr United moved top thanks to a 9-1 win over Mosta at the Mgarr Ground on Tuesday.

Abigail Camilleri put Mgarr ahead on the 15th minute and Brenda Borg doubled the score on the 31st. Francesca Chircop converted a penalty on the 38th and by the end of the first half, Rodiana Borg and Yolande Attard added another two goals on the 40th and 45th respectively. Seven minutes in the second half, Abigail Camilleri scored a sixth goal and following goals by Rebecca Bajada on the 55th and Nicole Cutajar on the 58th, Abigail Camilleri completed her hat-trick with a goal on the 64th. Leah Alice Ayres pulled one back for Mosta on the 81st.

In another match on Tuesday, Estonian Liis Pello was the hero with a hat-trick for Kirkop United in a 5-3 win over Mtarfa at the Dingli Ground.

Liis Pello put Kirkop ahead after just seven minutes but Lorna-Maria Cassar converted a penalty on the 17th to level matters. Rosalie Borg Cauchi made it 2-1 for Kirkop on the 20th with Lised Vibiana Romero equalising two minutes later. Three minutes from the end of the first half, a Liis Pello penalty restored the lead for Kirkop but once again Mtarfa equalised, this time through Darya Attard, one minute in the second half. However, goals by Liis Pello on the 54th and Rodianne Zerafa on the 69th handed Kirkop the three points.

In the match of the week, Birkirkara defeated Swieqi United 2-1 at the Mgarr Ground on Wednesday.

Christabel Oppong Oduro put the Stripes ahead on the 18th minute and Alishia Sultana doubled the score four minutes from the end of the first half. Four minutes in the second half, Kayleigh Chetcuti pulled one back for Swieqi.

On Saturday, Birkirkara defeated Mosta 7-0 in a match which was postponed last month.

They could not have a better side as Ileana Farrugia put Birkirkara ahead after just four minutes and Ann-Marie Said doubled the score two minutes later. Just before the end of the first half, Tracy Teuma made it 3-0. In the second half, Birkirkara added another four goals thanks to a brace by Veronique Mifsud on the 72nd and 85th and goals by Izabella Camilleri on the 77th and Raina Giusti on the 86th.
