Sliema turn defeat into victory to move five points clear

Sliema Wanderers moved five points clear in the BOV Premier League as they came from behind to beat Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

For the Wanderers, this was the fourth win in five matches. Tarxien, on the other hand, suffer a third consecutive defeat to stay third from bottom.

Tarxien took the lead just before half-time – one minute in added time – when off a freekick from the left, the ball reached Vito Plut slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jake Galea.

Sliema equalised eight minutes in the second half when off a corner from the left by Juri Cisotti, Oscar Linton headed the ball towards goal with Jean Paul Farrugia placing the ball at the back of the net.

Ten minutes later, the Wanderers notched the winner when off a cross by Cisotti from the right, Jean Paul Farrugia headed home past Daniel Fernandes.
