Melita registered a seventh win in as many matches in Group C of the BOV National Amateur League as they defeated Kalkara United 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
A Karl Mohnani hat-trick on the 13th, 20th and 24th (penalty) put the Amateurs three goals ahead. Noel Omondi increased the lead on the 29th with Alan Tabone reducing the gap on the 39th.
Melita now lead by six points over Attard as they suffered a second defeat losing 3-4 to Xghajra Tornados in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Nicholas Schembri put Attard ahead on the 17th but goals by Owen Izuchukwu Anyaso on the 22nd and Julian Spiteri on the 25th turned the score in Xghajra’s favour. Jurgen Gauci equalised on the 28th but on the half-hour Julian Spiteri made it 3-2. Royter Degiorgio increased the lead on the 86th with Lydon Cuschieri scoring a third goal for Attard.
In Group B, leaders Rabat Ajax maintained their unbeaten record thanks to a narrow win over Zabbar St. Patrick at the Sirens Stadium thanks to a goal by Julian Jacob Zahra five minutes from the end of the first half.
Msida St. Joseph registered a fourth consecutive win, beating Mdina Knights 3-2 at the Luxol Stadium.
Kurt Zahra put Msida ahead on the 45th and Timothy Thomas made it 2-0 on the 52nd. Marinko Solarevic reduced the gap for Mdina on the 79th and after Timothy Thomas made it 3-1 on the 82nd , Lee Cuschieri scored a second goal for Mdina seven minutes from time.
Luqa St. Andrew’s defeated Siggiewi 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium.
Goals by Julian Camilleri on the 25th and Greg Marney on the 36th and 59th (penalty) put Luqa three goals ahead with Emmanuel Mbong scoring a consolation goal for Siggiewi on the 64th.
Meanwhile in Section A, a Ikechukwu Igwemeke handed Gharghur a 3-1 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Luxol Stadium.
Igwemeke converted a penalty on the 4th minute and then scored goals on the 8th and 35th. Vinicius de Souza Ferreira pulled one back for Birzebbuga five minutes from time.
