Senglea Athletic revamp squad

After languishing at the bottom of the BOV Premier League table for most of the time in this season’s campaign, Senglea Athletic will be hoping to change their fortunes by revamping their squad.

The club signed Nigerian defender Sergio Uyi and Beninese striker Freud Gnindokponou and three local players – Andrew Zammit, Samuel Buhagiar and Dion Fava.

Nigerian central defender Sergio Uyi, who is 27 years old, started his career in Italy with Canavese and later played for Torino. He moved to Lithuania where he played for Dainava and Kruoja and following a spell with Atlantis FC in Finland, moved to Germany to join SSV Reutlingen. Uyi had a spell with Bangor City in Wales before moving to Malta in 2017 to join Senglea. The following season, he moved to Sudan where he joined Al Hilal anf following a spell with ACS Poli Timisoara in Romania, he moved to Al-Oruba Sur in Oman.

Twenty-six year old striker Freud Codjo Gnindokponou played for Racing Strasbourg at youth level before joining TA Rennes. He moved to Malta in 2018 to join Qormi.

Twenty-five year old Samuel Buhagiar is a product of Zabbar St. Patrick and later played for Mqabba, Zebbug Rangers and Marsaxlokk.

Twenty-five year old Dion Fava is also a product of Zabbar St. Patrick. He had spells on loan with Marsaxlokk and Vittoriosa Stars before joining the latter on a permanent move. While at Vittoriosa, he was loaned to Zebbug Rangers. This summer, he had moved to San Gwann.

A product of Rabat Ajax, twenty-five year old Andrew Zammit, has played for the Magpies throughout his career apart from one season on loan with Floriana in 2014/15

Another new signing could be that of Bruno Henrique De Morais Crespo. Twenty-year old defender Bruno started his career at Burgos FC, joining CF Vista Alegre last summer.

Among the players who will not be retained are Nikola Terzin, Uros Parezanin, Chris Matombo, Kevaughn Atkinson and Ricardo Martin.
