Mosta stun Sliema with three second half goals

Mosta joined Hibernians in third place, two points behind joint-leaders Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers as they scored three goals in the second half to beat the Wanderers 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

This was another fine performance for the team led by Davor Filipovic and Mario Muscat who have now extended their positive run to nine matches. The Wanderers, on the other hand, suffered their third defeat in seven matches. They continue to share the top spot with Hamrun but the Spartans have a game in hand.

Three minutes in the second half, Mosta took the lead when off a long through pass by Duane Bonnici from the left, Christ Evo Ememe advanced before beating the Sliema goalkeeper with a perfect lob.

Mosta doubled the score on the 63rd minute. Zachary Brincat sent Bojan Kaljevic through, only for the latter to be brought down inside the area by goalkeeper Jake Galea. The referee ordered a penalty and Bojan Kaljevic converted from the penalty spot.

Four mintues later, Mosta made it 3-0 when Kevin Tulimieri sent Ememe through on the right and the latter’s assist found Zachary Brincat on the left, slotting the ball past the Sliema custodian.

Five minutes from time, Sliema scored a consolation goal thanks to a Jean paul Farrugia penalty after Riki Kakinuma was floored inside the area by Duane Bonnici.
