BOV Amateur League: Melita move to just one point away from promotion

Melita moved to just one point from securing promotion as they registered the tenth win in as many matches in Group C of the BOV National Amateur League at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

Antoine Attard put the Amateurs ahead on the 34th minute and Karl Mohnani doubled the score in added time.

Attard, on the other hand, secured one of the play-off spots after defeating bottom-placed Sta. Venera Lightnings 6-0 in another match at the Luxol Stadium.

Bledi Alla converted a penalty on the 9th minute and Jurgen Gauci doubled the score on the 20th. Alla made it 3-0 on the 50th and Nicholas Schembri 4-0 on the 75th. Bledi Alla scored another two goals on the 77th and 89th to complete his poker.

Kirkop United also moved closer to a play-off spot thanks to a 2-0 win over Xghajra Tornados at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Daniel Claridge put Kirkop ahead on the 45th and Lincoln Micallef doubled the score on the 72nd.

In Group B, leaders Luqa St. Andrew’s moved an important step towards promotion after defeating Msida St. Joseph 2-0 in a top-of-the-table clash at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. With two games to go, they lead by four points over Msida.

An own goal one minute in the second half paved the way for Edmond Lufi’s side with Mario Jude Dominicus sealing the issue with a second goal five minutes in added time.

In Group A, Zurrieq kept the pace with leaders Mgarr United as they came from behind to defeat Ghaxaq 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium.

An own goal on the 12th minute and a goal by Jeremy George Azzopardi four minutes later put Ghaxaq two goals ahead. However Andre Joe Cutajar reduced the gap on the 21st, Jean Paul Formosa equalised on the 43rd and Cutajar notched the winner one minute from time.

In another match, goals by Joseph Chetcuti on the 73rd and Larken Friggieri five minutes later handed Marsaskala a 2-0 win over Gharghur.
