BOV Amateur League: Battle for promotion, play-off spots intensifies

The battle for promotion and the play-off spots intensifies in the BOV National Amateur League.

In Group A, Mgarr United moved another step towards promotion as they defeated Mellieha 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium.

Lazar Doric put Mgarr ahead on the 35th and Aaron Sammut doubled the score on the 53rd. Mgarr lead by five points over Zurrieq with three games to go.

In another match, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s maintained alive hopes of securing a place in the play-offs as they defeated Ta’ Xbiex 2-0 courtesy of Vinicius de Souza Ferreira on the 42nd and Keith Muscat on the 51st.

In Group B, Rabat Ajax joined Msida St. Joseph in second place as they came from behind to beat Mdina Knights 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium.

An Andy Paul Camilleri penalty on the 37th minute put Mdina ahead but Zachary Tanti converted another penalty to level matters just before half-time. Nicolai Attard notched the winner on the 64th minute.

In another match, Siggiewi turned defeat into victory to beat Mtarfa 2-1.

Gianluca Calabretta put Mtarfa ahead on the 7th minute but a brace by Emmanuel Mbong on the 67th and 79th handed Siggiewi three precious points.
