BOV Challenge League: Pembroke, San Gwann register wins

Pembroke Athleta and San Gwann registered important wins in two of the five matches from the BOV Challenge League on Sunday. Pembroke move top, one point ahead of Marsa while San Gwann are now alone in third place, three points ahead of Swieqi. Marsa and Swieqi, however, have a game in hand.

A goal by Neil Frendo on the 78th minute handed Pembroke Athleta a narrow win over Marsaxlokk at the Centenary Stadium.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, San Gwann defeated Vittoriosa Stars 4-1.

Quadri Adebayo Adediran put San Gwann ahead on teh 29th minute and Luca Mallia doubled the score on the 41st. Renan Sgaria Farias converted a penalty just before half-time to reduce the gap but goals by Quadri Adebayo Adediran on the 74th and Uchenna Calistus Umeh three minutes later, sealed the issue for Jean Paul Desira’s side.

Pieta’ Hotspurs and Qrendi moved fifth as they defeated Qormi and St. Andrews respectively.

The Hotspurs beat Qormi 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Diego Segura on the 60th and Matthew Portelli on the 78th while a goal by Dasser Sammut on the 14th minute handed Qrendi a narrow win over St. Andrews at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In another match, Zebbug Rangers defeated Fgura United 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by John Micallef on the 8th, Ayrton Mizzi on the 70th and Luka Mijic on the 71st.
