Late Montebello goal puts Birkirkara in fourth place

Birkirkara joined Sliema Wanderers in fourth place as a goal by Luke Montebello on the 90th minute enabled them to return to winning ways, defeating Mosta 1-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

This tenth consecutive positive result for the team led by Andre Paus therefore puts them once again the challengers for honours. For Mosta, this second successive defeat leaves them in sixth place, two points behind Sliema and Birkirkara.

Late in the first half, the Stripes went close to taking the lead with two attempts by Luke Montebello which were neutralised by Mosta goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi – a shot from outside the area which was blocked and a shot from inside the area, when served by Caio Prado, which was tipped into a corner.

Birkirkara notched the winner on the 90th minute when off a cross by Caio Prado from the right, Federico Falcone left the ball for Luke Montebello to tap the ball home from close range.
