Futsal: Two wins in a row for St. George’s

St George’s had a week to remember as they registered two wins in a row in the FMA League. The Cottonera side claimed just one point from their first four matches but these two wins gave them a huge boost in the standings.

The first match against Qormi was an exciting affair although in the end they managed to win 8-4. Yessous Camilleri scored a hat-trick with Clayton Micallef netting a brace. Luke Gatt, Christian Grech and Keith Darmanin completed the score for the Cottonera side. Qormi pulled some goals through Luis Lopez (2) and Jonathan Scerri.

In their second match, St George’s saw off Żurrieq 5-1. Once again Yessous Camilleri was in fine form as he netted a brace while Mattia Mentosa, Clayton Micallef and Christian Grech also put their names on the score sheet. Mark Fenech pulled one back for Żurrieq. During this match, Żurrieq Futsal made an extraordinary act of sportsmanship as they allowed the opponents to score to compensate for a goal they had scored when one of St. George’s was injured on field of play.

In the upper part of the table, champions Luxol obtained their fifth win as they dominated Ibraġġ Futsal 12-0. Everton Veve scored a hat-trick, Mark Zammit and Dylan Musu hit the target twice while Nathan Cope, Giancarlo Sammut, Leanderson, Maicon Silva and an own goal completed the score for the St Andrews side.

In the direct clash between University of Malta and Valletta, it was the latter who got the three points as they won 3-1. Melvin Borg, Zvezdan Vukovic and Claudio Venuto scored the goals for the Lilywhites as Cleaven Portelli netted the Students’ consolation goal.

On the other hand, Swieqi United Futsal maintained their good form of late as they saw off Naxxar Lions 12-1. On the other hand, Jean Noel Azzopardi scored Naxxar’s only goal.

Mellieħa returned to winning ways as they defeated Żurrieq Futsal 4-2. It was an exciting match that produced six goals with the Northerners who had the last laugh.
