BOV Amateur League: Melita, Mgarr United secure promotion

Melita and Mgarr United were the first two teams to secure promotion to the BOV Challenge League as they secured the top spot in the respective groups in the BOV National Amateur League on Saturday.

In Group A, Mgarr United secured a historic promotion after defeating Gharghur 4-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to an own goal on the 35th and goals by Jean Paul Grima on the 61st, Lazar Doric on the 75th and Russell Marmara on the 86th.

Marsaskala moved closer to securing a play-off spot after defeating Zurrieq 5-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Abubakar Bello Osagie converted a penalty on the 25th and Larken Friggieri doubled the score on the 32nd. Jean Paul Formosa reduced the gap on the 47th but goals by Nicholas Zammit on the 63rd, Larken Friggieri on the 80th and Dario Aquilina on the 85th. Formosa reduced the arrears one minute in added time.

In Group B, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s maintained alive hopes of securing a place in the play-offs as they defeated Ta’ Xbiex 2-0 courtesy of Vinicius de Souza Ferreira on the 42nd and Keith Muscat on the 51st.

In Group B, Luqa St. Andrew’s lead by three points over Msida St. Joseph and Rabat Ajax after the latter two shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Goals by Nicolai Attard on the 2nd minute and Zachary Tanti on the 24th but after they had a player sent off , they conceded two goals on the 75th and 88th by Timothy Thomas.

A goal by Emmanuel Mbong on the 9th minute handed Siggiewi a 1-0 win over Mdina Knights at the Luxol Stadium.

On the other hand, goals by Jurgen Gerada on the 8th, Luca Casha on the 58th and 80th handed Mtarfa a 3-0 win over Zabbar St. Patrick at the Luxol Stadium.

In Group C, Melita were crowned group winners thanks to a 2-0 win over Melita at the Sirens Stadium, courtesy of Jean Pierre Attard on the 9th minute and Antoine Attard on the 87th. This was the eleventh win in as many matches for the Amateurs.
