BOV Amateur League: Luqa St. Andrew’s secure promotion

Luqa St. Andrew’s are the third team to be promoted to the BOV Challenge League as they won Group B of the BOV National Amateur League thanks to a 3-0 win over Mtarfa at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Alan Abdel Rahman opened the score for Luqa on the 33rd and a Fabien Lufi penalty on the 45th put them two goals ahead. Two minutes in the second half, Abdel Rahman added another to make it 3-0.

With one round of matches to go, Msida St. Joseph and Rabat Ajax share the second place on 18 points, followed by Siggiewi on 17 and Mtarfa on 15. In the final matches from the group next week, Msida and Mtarfa face each in a direct clash while Siggiewi take on Zabbar St. Patrick.

Meanwhile in another match at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday, Zabbar St. Patrick and Mdina Knights shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, a Kurt Drakard penalty for Mdina on the 15th and a goal by Jean Claude Cesare on the 54th for Zabbar.

In Group C, group winners Melita ended their commitments with a perfect record as they defeated Attard 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to a goal by Matthew Debattista six minutes from time.

On the other hand, Xghajra Tornados defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 4-2. Andrew Formosa put Xghajra ahead on the 3rd minute. Izuchukwu Owen Anyaso doubled the score on the half hour but Edward Falzon reduced the gap on the 58th and Filip Minev equalised on the 75th. However Glenn Brincat scored twice on the 79th and 92nd to hand Xghajra the three points.

Attard and Kirkop United are sure of a play-off spot with Xghajra Tornados and Kalkara United battling out for the remaining spot. In their final matches next week, Xghajra take on Dingli Swallows and Kalkara face Attard.
